San Francisco Art Institute takes down exhibit (see photos/ scroll down) by Paris artist Adel Abdessemed after receiving numerous death threats from animal rights activists due to video installations where animals were bludgeoned to death with a sledgehammer in front of a brick wall... Read the article and let us know what you think about it... Should SFAI have backed down?... Remember when Capobianco Gallery in North Beach was closed after their show featuring works by Guy Colwell featured images depicting the atrocities at the Abu Gharib?... The owner was attacked and received gnarly death threats as well... Different subject matter obviously, but interesting when art crosses that line and how a gallery or institution supports the show or artist and decides it's no longer worth the trouble.

THE MOST EXPLOSIVE PICTURE OF THE YEAR! <-- is a solo show from Brooklyn based artist Steak Mtn. (Christopher Norris) which opens April 4th at the Threadless Gallery (store) in Chicago... Really great work. If you're in the area, be sure and check it out or go here to view the work online.

Can you find the secret back alley coffee hut from one of the people that brought you Ritual Roasters? Probably the best coffee in the city. Looking forward to the whole shop opening up, but for now it just rules to buy a coffee in an alley full of pigeon shit. Try the Dicken Cider, it's good stuff. Here's some hints... it's in the Mission, it's down an alley beside the coolest screen printing shop in town, and if the coffee isn't working you can easily score some crack right after.

Our pal Jeremy Fish has added his art to a lot of different products, but this time he's treading new territory with his newest creation, Barry the Beaver, which is a "tribute to all the lonely beavers out there"... EDDIE MARTINEZ <-- We could stare at this New York artist's paintings all day and never get bored. Wish the images on the website were a little more hi-resolution, but luckily there is a show happening right now through April 12 at ZeiherSmith. Go check it out.

British designer Craig Robinson, who runs the website Flip Flop Flyin', started coming up with these Lollipop characters back in 2004. It's pretty fun to try and guess which ones are which.. thanks for the link Awwwdrey.

Eagle rays (the Myliobatidae family of fish) are a family of mostly large rays living in the open ocean rather than at the bottom of the sea. Eagle rays feed on snails, mussels and crustaceans, crushing their shells with their extremely hard teeth. They are excellent swimmers and are able to jump several metres above the surface.

We were lucky to get a little peek on Tuesday, and can't imagine what it may look like now after living in the space and working on it for the last few days. Headed down to the grocery store and came upon this massive 4 alarm fire here in the Mission... Ran into the Groshong and saw a worried Audrey rush past as she headed for home not sure if her building was up in flames... Luckily, her building was untouched, but unfortunately, 50 others weren't so lucky... Ugh.

PAPERBACK MAGAZINE ISSUE 1 <-- we check out this somewhat new magazine hailing from London. Maybe they're about to release issue 2?

Beginning this summer and continuing for up to 5 years, the EPA is planning on spraying SF and the Bay Area with an untested biological "pesticide" to control the light brown apple moth's population. Side effects range from vomiting and flu like systems, to male and female reproductive cycle disruption.
