I got off the plane and made my way toward Space 1026. A big box of stuff was waiting. 90 pounds to be exact...Got unpacked, laid things out on the floor, and took a walk around the neighborhood.
Missed the Matt Leines book signing by one night. Bummer.
Trevor arrived later that night in a moving truck from Brooklyn filled with goodness.
Meanwhile the interns where busy putting up all 1,000 ITSOK's.
Wait, how many of these do we have to put up?
While everyone else watched from the couch. Eric (left) and Beaver (right) were unstoppable in their install.
Some brand new works, 'scribbles' entitled: everything i wish i could say to you. Which had to get 2-4 pieces of velcro on every single piece...Beth rocked it out, even in sweat pants.
Beth (co-curator of the exhibition) rode over in the rain, and her clothes were soaked. She was so hard core, she scavenged up an old sweat suit, and got to work.
He was even kind enough to help out with the install...
When Trevor says he's going to build a room, he means it. Literally...Down to every last detail. What's funny is, that with the right crop, it looks like he's in someone's basement.
Fake is the new real.
We all took a break, and snuggled into Isaac's studio to watch the VP debate.
Here is where we stayed for a few nights. If you see up the stairway, with the burgundy carpet, and the shiny pink wallpaper...That's what it used to be.
Penis chair. Check.
2 urinals to catch your mail and loose change. Check
And 2 couches that fold down, and roll together to create a stage, that you can have a fashion show, or disco party. Check and check.
Trevor had an interesting night, to say the least. Have you ever seen those films, where the house falls down, the guy is standing within the door-frame unharmed? It was kind of like that...but opening was a window...not a door...and he's 6'3"...not the height of a window. Ouch.
So, onto the actual work in the show...Left to Right: shit i didn't realize you felt that way, saying the same thing over and over again helps keep me sane, all the things i wish i could say to you.
ITSOK made up of 1,000 ITSOK's.
alone in the wilderness
The early crowd snatching cellphone picks. Where are the copyright lawyers when you need one?
The main response to the show..."well, it's ok..."
Philly sure has a force of young art lovers...
Trevor reviews the 'Sarah Palin SeXXX Tape' we found in the Space.
Inspecting the goods.
A stack of 50 sheets of cut fabric: saying the same thing over and over again helps keep me sane
All the kids hustled into Store1026, snagging anything they could get their hands on. Affordable art is where it's at.
These little dudes were chilling in the store too. You can pick one up here.
Meanwhile, most of the Space members were hard at work, popping down to say hello for a moment, but quickly getting back to the task at hand. This place is an art factory.
Being a space that so many people have passed through, all the walls everywhere are covered in various art in the last 10 years. The bathroom though, has been painted and repainted, but there were a few choice pieces "framed" that didn't get buffed.
Will Buzzel, was hammering this piece up to add to the bathroom decor, as I stood there washing my hands.
And what better way to end the night, than at one of Philly's finest Karaoke bars. You can find a few more pics of the trip here.
