I wanna share with you the beautiful thing that is the ONE SHOT. Basically the ONE SHOT is a mini-comic/zine/book type thing that's made using a single sheet of 8 1/2 X11 paper. meaning, of course, they're cheap to reproduce at any copy joint, as well as super easy to five-finger on the sly at work, if you're into that kinda thing. what makes me happy about this project, is it's really easy to share your work with others or, if you're selling them, they can actually pay for themselves with a minimal selling price.
materials
-8 1/2 x 11inch sheets of paper
-pencil and/or pen
-photocopier
-exacto knife
-a piece of board that you can cut on
process
1)take a standard piece of paper (8 1/2 x 11) and fold it in half the long way, and then unfold.
2)take that same piece of paper and fold it in half the short way, and then unfold.
3)take the 8 1/2 ends and fold each of them to the center crease, and then unfold. there are now 8 frames on your sheet of paper. you've created the basic template.
4)decide how you're gonna lay out your work.
*If you're planning on creating something in booklet form; the second frame from the left, on the bottom, will be your front cover, and the first frame on the bottom left will be your back cover.
*If you wanna get really tricky, plan on using both sides of the paper, which will give you 16 frames. when you're laying down your work for a 16 frame booklet, you need to use 2 single-sided sheets of paper, otherwise you will have a bleed through issue. you will select DOUBLE SIDED FROM SINGLE SIDED (1 side->2 sided) when you copy, to put the thing together. i suggest that you indicate somewhere in your work that the reader will need to flip the that sucker inside out, as it's not such an obvious thing as one might be tempted to think it is.
5)put your work onto the template
6)make the photocopies; each copy will be one complete ONE SHOT(do yourself the favor of fiddling with the contrast/darkness BEFORE you hit 20-go!)
7)fold all copies the same way as your template.
8)Take the exacto knife, and placing your sheet on the cutting board, slit the paper along the 11 fold, through the middle two frames ONLY.
9)ONE SHOTS will practically fold up themselves, but you do need to guide them so your front and back covers show in the correct way.
10)use marker or paint pens to add a little extra sparkle to the covers.
have lots of fun selling them or handing them out to your friends.
