+Pearl Closing
We've heard that Pearl on Market is closing for some time now, but as reported by the Chronicle, the store will close within the next couple of weeks. Pearl sites tough times from online competition and general decline in art everything business. Sounds like it may be a good time to get down there and look for specials... Guess Dick Blick thinks they can do better because they're opening a store just two doors down this summer.

They've been "closing" for a while, and they don't have much left - most printing papers (BFK etc) are all gone but I heard they still have some oil and acrylic paints for 1/2 off. And actually Blick's has some good sales going on now too. Pretty sweet deals to be had all around.

Ugh, SF too? They closed our Pearl here in Chicago. Now we, like you have Dick Blick. I'll miss the paper and paint brush selection at Pearl. Just not the same over at Blick.

From inside the art materials retail world: Pearl was always horribly run. In a down economy, it's a surprise they lasted this long.
