Solo show in NYC entitled "Unexpected Occurrences"
Joshua Liner started off the new year with the gloves off, and swinging. Actually he needed to do very little with the mighty blows Oliver Vernon served up with his solo titled 'Unexpected Occurrences'. I personally have been fixated on Oliver Vernon's work for the last 4-5 five years. I first hit him up in late 2004 when I was running a crusty zine out of New York. Sadly never really got to connect on that, but with some luck we might just be able to do it now. Stay tuned....
Josh also dropped a Crash bomb, with legendary New York City graff artists Crash One and his solo 'Unfinished Business'. Def. unfinished and as he has been shaking his can since before some of us could read. His work has evolved greatly over the years, but still holds that trademark and classic Crash style that has been emulated a hundred times over again by artist over the years. Let the truth be known, history is history and Crash has his place in it, and still going getting it done. You should find a spot to pencil in a visit. The show runs until February 21st.

The meteoric rise and fall of Jean-Michel Basquiat, born 1960. In the crime-ridden NYC of the 1970s, he covers the city with the graffiti tag SAMO. In 1981 he puts paint on canvas for the first time, and by 1983 he is an artist with “rock star status.” In 1985 he and Andy Warhol become close friends and painting collaborators, but they part ways and Warhol dies suddenly in 1987. Basquiat’s heroin addiction worsens, and he dies of an overdose in 1988. The artist was 25 years old at the height of his career, and today his canvases sell for more than a million dollars. With compassion and insight, Tamra Davis details the mysteries that surround this charismatic young man, an artist of enormous talent whose fortunes mirrored the rollercoaster quality of the downtown scene he seemed to embody.
