Mini Interview: Isaac Randozzi
Written by Trippe
Wednesday, 04 February 2009, 9:20am

A new father, an old Fecal Pal, and a photographer from Pinole Ca.

We get a lot of great emails from a lot of talented people introducing us to their work. From time to time we'll be sharing their work here in our mini interviews segment... To be considered for a mini interview send a few jpegs to: mini(at)fecalface.com

Make sure the images are at least 600 pixels in width.

Age? Location? Website?

32, Pinole California, www.mydumbluck.com

Tell us a little bit about your work.

I take photos of things I find interesting, as all photographers do. Sometimes it can be a hunt for the right shot, other times it's almost like it falls into your lap. Then there are days you realize that you know nothing at all. Those are most days for me. I print most of my stuff (big thanks to Ray at the Photo Epicenter except for the color. It's fun getting secluded in a tiny world of black, white and red.

How's your little girl doing? What's it like being a father? How has it affected your work?

She is awesome. Cliche' to say but she really is. I got laid off my day job at the law firm in early Dec. so I've been home with her more and she is always happy. Even with the teething and the usual pangs of being a very small and new human she's always smiling and being a goof. The only times she cries is when it's a real thing; wet, hungry, tired or in some form of discomfort. She ain't no cry baby. I dig being a dad. It's a real shock to the ego and system in general when you walk into a room and your kid gets excited and says, "dadadadadadadadad."

I learned how to drive in early '08 because she was coming, so a whole new realm of possibilities has opened. The realization that I'm the provider for another person is a freaky bit of info that goes 'round and 'round in my head everyday. It has made me focus more on my photography and writing and inspired me to be more productive. I have a tendency to procrastinate and with her (as in life sometimes) she can't wait if she needs a diaper change. Shit is happening now and you better handle it.

Tools of the trade?

Olympus PEN-FT, Pentax K1000, Olympus Stylus Epic, HP5 film, Ilford satin RC photo-paper, Canon PowerShot SD1000 digital point and shoot, pen, paper, notebook, computer, cigarettes, coffee, devil's lettuce.

Influences?

Photography - Tobin Yelland, David Uzzardi, Henri Cartier-Bresson, David Schubert, the Westons, Angela Boatright, Brian Gaberman, Noel Gaberman, Ted Pushinsky, French Fred Morgantge(sp?), Rich Hart, Vic Blue, Boogie, Hamburger Eyes Magazine, Black and White Magazine and many more.

Writing - Henry Miller, John Fante, Robert K. Massie, Dave Carney, Jacob Bunge, Travis Jensen, Kurt Vonnegut, Herodotus.

Upcoming?

In the next 10+/- min. and the rest of today - more coffee and a smoke. Then Gnar Pad lurking, working on a freelance writing assignment then an article for SLAP Mag. work on my web site and with luck squeeze in a visit from Porous Walker and a skate. But that might be over-stating things a bit. I try to do that everyday.

In March I have 2 artist series decks coming out via Stereo (www.stereosoundagency.com), should be finished with giving my site a boob job by the time this comes out (I hope), a shirt with Orchard skate shop (www.orchardshop.com), some projects with Equal Distribution (www.equaldist.com) and with luck a couple of road trips for Stereo and Slap stuff.

JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT: THE RADIANT CHILD
Monday, 30 August 2010, 3:46pm

Opening up this Friday @Lumiere Theater on California @Polk here in SF and is also opening in Berkely as well. More dates and cities.

The meteoric rise and fall of Jean-Michel Basquiat, born 1960. In the crime-ridden NYC of the 1970s, he covers the city with the graffiti tag SAMO. In 1981 he puts paint on canvas for the first time, and by 1983 he is an artist with “rock star status.” In 1985 he and Andy Warhol become close friends and painting collaborators, but they part ways and Warhol dies suddenly in 1987. Basquiat’s heroin addiction worsens, and he dies of an overdose in 1988. The artist was 25 years old at the height of his career, and today his canvases sell for more than a million dollars. With compassion and insight, Tamra Davis details the mysteries that surround this charismatic young man, an artist of enormous talent whose fortunes mirrored the rollercoaster quality of the downtown scene he seemed to embody.

Wanna thank NYC based painter David Lyle for sending us this fantastic print. David's paintings are inspired from found photographs.
