After doing our last Art Mondays where I got to visit the studio of Andrew Schoultz I got an email from Mike Shine inviting me out to Briones, CA to visit his art shack and to get a taste of this great town with an amazing history... This is perfect. Instead of squandering away a day sitting in front of my computer in a daze, I'd rather get out and meet some artists... I know too many throgh the internet whom I've never met in person. The internet is keeping us apart. Time to get together... Plus, the Bay Area is too amazing to experience from the internet too... Wait, it is great to experience it through Fecal Face though... Of course. It's the best way... Anyway...

My wife-to-be's parents invited us out to their new house in hills for dinner the night before.

Yes please...

So after an evening by the fire pit, I dropped the wife-to-be off at work the next morning and made my way on over to Shine's.

Quick stop for sustenance.

To a coffee shop to get a little computer work done too... Shit, the internet doesn't work.

So instead I drank my coffee watching little kids race lasers... So rad.

Pick up a way to listen to music for the drive.

And it's off down the coast.

Mr. Mike Shine invites me into the shack.

Working as an art director for an advertising firm for $$$, Mike uses the shack as his personal club/ art house... Surfs throughout the day... Works on his paintings.

Mike grew up on Lake Ontario in New York... He dreamed of moving to California to surf, and after sometime working in New York, that's what he did. Packed it up and headed west.

Mike's got some talented friends... Like Thomas Campbell here.

This fridge may have been featured in the film High Fidelity... Not totally sure, but it's a 90% chance.

It was about this point that Mike invites me for a surf later... He mentioned going out with Barry Mcgee his surfing buddy... I can't believe I declined a surf with Mike and Barry McGee, but shit, the water's been too cold for my taste... He said was pretty painful this morning... A rain check!

It's strange meeting someone through the internet and committing to hanging out with them for the day... I planned an escape route in case Mike turned out to be an annoying nut or something, but shit, the guy was one of the coolest people I've ever met... Pleasant surprise the guy was way too cool... It's those water people.

Mike works on drift wood he finds at the beach.

Behind the shack he's got an outdoor shower and a hot tub... The place is bonkers.

This used book shop is great... See a book you want? Pay what you think it's worth and leave the money in a jar.

Same goes for the art.

Rumor is that this house was owned by Al Capone during prohibition.

This house on the beach was owned by members of Jefferson Airplane back in the day.

Surf camp rules

Fuck, can you imagine living here?!

Watering hole... Years ago, after surfing, some friends and I got pretty drunk here... Wasted actually, and instead of being a tard and attempting the drive home on winding roads with gnarly cliffs, we opted on staying in the rooms they offer above the bar... So awesome.
