Age? Location? Website?
Im 24 years old and I moved to Sana Fe New Mexico 3 months ago with my lady to get away from Boston weather and to live in a big (faux) adobe with studios for cheap in the middle of desert and mountains. My website is brianwillmont.com.

Tell us a little bit about your work.
I've been working on a cyclical creation myth that follows the birth, evoltution, folly and demise of society. Then it starts again trying to get it right. I don't really intend for this to happen but its something ive noticed in my work over the past couple of years. It's the myth of a dream.

How do you go about creating a piece?
I write down tons of notes and ideas in a little notebook or on my hands and arms if I don't have it or I am sleeping. Usually the idea or series makes sense to do in a particular medium for some reason and I just get some materials out and start. By the time I am done it doesn't really look how I thought it would, I like to just figure it out as I go along. It usually feels like there is only one way it can be, I just have to figure out what it is.

Inspiration?
Everything around me inspires me, but recently I've been really into Haruki Murakami's books. His ideas about the liquidity of reality and dreams are amazing and something that I trying to instill in my work. Also my Dad, He's a wild mystic with great ideas about the workings of life and reality. Right now he's building tons of geometric models trying to solve some puzzle hat he thinks will show him the meaning of life through sacred geometry. Talking to him always gives me new ideas.

Day job?
I work in a warehouse at 7 am making custom art packaging, packing art, and then driving a truck to deliver said boxes. I am not a morning person. I also do design work whenever I catch a bone.

Tools of the trade?
Gouache, mechanical pencils, acrylic, spray paint, paper, cardboard, hot glue and anything else that is sitting in my studio or catches my eye. I really really like paper.

Worst and best thing ever?!
Best things are: lying in bed forever, the smell of paint and hot glue, friends, burritos (I was just in SF and I have to say that they are delicious and plentiful in this city!), freewheelin', and getting in the ZONE!... Worst things are: Day jobs, time, rain, money, and staring at a blank piece of paper for hours without a clue.

Upcoming?
Well, right now I have a two person show with Alex Lukas at Park Life in SF that I'm really excited about, it has given me tons of ideas. I am also one half of the creative force behind Apenest (along with Cody Hoyt), which just released its second book featuring way too many talented folks to mention. We have a still life show up now called Sunday Painting at the Iceberger Gallery also in SF. But in the immediate future I'm going to make lots of drawings, cook a bunch of delicious food, hang out in natural hot springs in the mountains, and spend some time with my lady doing all of these things!
