This past week Steve Lazarides brought the A-team, street, crust, drip, cubery, destructor, taxidermist and etc. artist to New York City to take up residence in some raw as mini warehouse on the lower east side. Many of you might be hating on the Laz establishment for one reason or another. Known as a 'Street Movement' operation catering to the super wealthy, raising the bar and the pounds. We have heard about the inflated market value prices and have heard rumors of media savvy tricks, but let's take a step back for a minute, shall we.

Generally a gallery is in the art scene to make money. And we all know that publicity gets you seen so isn't that all part of the high gallery gig. I mean this is the same guy who reps the big Banksy and I am willing to bet that it was not by the grace of god that the UK press has turned Banksy into a household name in just a few short years. Perhaps a series of carefully crafted publicity stunts with Laz. pulling the strings. Now before the hate mail pours in, this is all based on my keen sense of logic. Nothing here is based on fact, except that the NYC show went off in major way and killed, no doubt.

All that meaningless and non-factual information aside, I think it is my obligation to tell you how incredible this Laz. show is. Let me start by saying Conor Harrington is a bad-ass! We've all seen his stuff online and in print but nothing compares to in person. The color and blending mixed with the void of elemental details, yet focusing on the needed ones is genius. Truly iconic painting coming out of this guy, and he is just getting started. Fecal Face also loves Ian Francis who is surely a cut above the rest. Then there is the recently migrate to New York work of David Choe. His fast and furious yet color ridden antiestablishment political style, is startlingly good. There was Antony Micallef with his gigantic Hollywood number. A large (15 footer) Faile piece greeted you as you entered the front door on the left. The photographic styling of JR was in more than a few spots. BAST, Space Invader, and the twisted body illustrations of Mode 2. Plus so many more!

Not to mention the grimy feel of this 'pop up' unfinished gallery space was a perfect backdrop for the street steeze oozing out of these heavy weights. If you can make it, I highly recommend seeing this show, which runs through October 12th.

Tim was not so secretly admiring the Faile piece as if he was dreaming of a girl in far away land. This is already beginning to feel like the Faile antics and show of 2007.
