High 5s: Vacation Time?
Written by Trippe
Monday, 29 December 2008, 2:46pm
Spending some un/comfortable time away from the site.
Since we don't have a show at the gallery till Paul Urich's which opens on January 8th, kinda thought it'd be nice to get out while we can... Working 6-7 days a week can wear ya down... Below is my holiday vaction thus far.

Paul Urich did come through to show me his photo album where his show Gone But Not Forgotten was inspired.

He brought SMASH.

Everyone was leaving town so we held a little gathering.

Check out our first Christmas tree... w/ top star crafted by Irving the night of the paper out of printer paper.

Isabelle and Fish

Paul & Kari

Tiffany and Jack

Wolfe

The Irvings

Jessie Van Roechoudt

Captain brought his anus

Next day we sailed off some hangover.

BBQ @Angels Island is mucho good.

Found a nice spot to watch the sunset under the Golden Gate.

Yeah, it's pretty... pretty.

And then motored from the island to pier 1.5 (new awesome public pier) right next to the ferry building for some drinks.

Me not much caring to be in front of the camera.

This new pier is going to be over-run come summer... in the meantime, we're using the hell out of it.

I fucking hate shopping... We motored into Union Square to be annoyed by the crowds in order to present people.

I used to love Tad's... Basic/ shitty buffet - steak, ice berg lettce, baked patato.

REALLY... REMODLED!!!! Looks like shit.... There used to be so much character in here. Think Red's and the Mission steak house on Army.

They may have changed the look of the place, but the food's still pretty shitty, but I'm not here for the shitty food so much. I wanted the ambiance.

I feel ya.

Christmas Eve - the killing of the crab.

In-law's new backyard = amazing.

Ravi, my new brother-in-law, and his new Christmas switch "pearl handled" blade!

After the booze of Christmas wore off, we headed back out on the water.

not much wind, but we made it to Sausalito for an anchor over night.

As the sun set we prepared dinner, played some cards and drank some wine... then slept off our Christmas hangovers.

I woke pre dawn and waited for the sun to rise.

Haven't watched the sun rise in years...

drank some tea to stay warm... It was freakin' ice cold!

But so hard to turn away. (SF skyline on the right in the distance)

Wife was out and needed some more sleep.

I finished my tea thinking about the new year and tried to stay calm about not working for the last few days.

We motored into Sausalito and had breakfast here... (many missing photos not taken).

More bridge and more...

taking the sails down due to lack of wind... frustating motoring a sailboat.

back to Angel Island.

Motoring home looking forward to getting back to work.

Wintery San Francisco

We made plans with Mike Giant to sail with him and Meagan the next day Sunday.

Over to Pier 1.5 to pick them up at high noon.

Not much wind for sailing... motored back to Angel Island for a hike and lunch.

So amazing and warm out.

Mike Giant getting some safty on.

Megan and Mike where some epic boat guests... Some people are always welcome back. Good vibes.

I don't give up the tiller easily.

The pier 1.5 drop off... We made it back just in time for the channel to be impassible... Extra low tide.

And today I packed boxes. Art out...

Today was the best I felt in awhile... I think I just like working... Felt so great having a mellow work day... Beer and some of those awesome Sofie Champagnes and got a bunch of shit done and listened to music very very very loud.

I love sailing and time away from work, but I don't like being away for too long... and these things are awesome. Thanks! {moscomment}

Your SF Photos

Last week we did our first themed Photo of the Day asking you to email in your quintessential San Francisco photos. We got so many great entries and couldn't squeeze them all in. So, here's a bit of overflow from the images emailed in.

Hola from Tequisquiapan Mexico

Hey there, I just got back from a short residency down in a small town two hours north of Mexico City called Tequisquiapan. I was asked to come down there to meet some of the crew of the Clipperton Project, which basically is going to be a crazy boat trip in March with scientists and artists going out to a very remote atoll in the Pacific called Clipperton Island. Anyways, I thought you might like to see some photos of the town and the graffiti that I was surprised to find there.

FFDG's Permanent Home

We can finally shut up about FFDG's fire, about FFDG's temp space, about all the transitions, because we signed a 2 year lease on a new space in the heart of the Mission District last night!

Real Etheral by Evan Mann

Real Ethereal embraces our mysterious relationship with life. It blends the physical with the metaphysical on a journey through an ever-transitioning space where common interactions become extraordinary and perception ventures into the otherworldly. Real Ethereal examines possibilities of unseen realities and metaphorically represents the winding path that reveals before us and conceals behind us; the future remains a mystery while the past fades quickly into the recesses of our mind. We are left with the present: the mysterious reality of our existence; the hair of time difficult to grasp.

The Story of Sue Nami
Tuesday, 31 January 2012, 9:36am

In the days following the Fukushima nuclear disaster, I was asked to make a poster for the Devo show at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. The image was a Japanese girl, wearing a nuclear t shirt, with the kanji character for earth tattooed on her shoulder. She was dead. I called her Sue Nami, and much to my surprise, the band liked it. ~keep reading Zolton's story of Sue.
