Billy Childish, Pizza Parties, Fucking Des Moines Iowa, and The Polaroid Kidd.
So, John Trippe always seems to be asking me, "Andrew, what do you do when you're not at the store?" I never really know how to answer that question. Mostly, I fart around and try to hide out from humanity. I ride my bike to the beach, listen to headphones, drink too much coffee, and scribble ponderings in a little book. And then if I'm off the next day, I'll do it all over again. That's the general day off routine. Yes sirree. ...WIth that, I present to you the electronic evidence of existence. Commence scrolling.

Below you will find a couple of the worldly observations scribbled into my journal over the last couple of weeks on planet earth:

...How often do you get to tell this to your boss and still have a job when you come back the next day? I laughed a little bit to myself thinking back on this conversation.

Meanwhile, at Needles + Pens land Mike Brodie aka The Polaroid Kidd had his closing show. Some people came by and wished the artwork farewell. (left to right) Bill Daniel, Mike Brodie, Breezy Sol Sand Strand Culbertson "The crew is me, the crew is you, ...yeah, we're the crew."

Monica Canilao is an old pal of Brodie's.

She came by to say hi to Brodie and brought by the artwork for the new Needles + Pens shirts. The drawing came out rad, I'm super happy. (They should be ready soon, I just dropped off the shirts with Skirvin at Ape Do Good today.)

Monica ran off with my camera and snapped pics of some folks at the opening, ...like the one of this fellow.

Good times ensued. People gathered around drinking the sparks and the brewskies.

Institution of Adobe books, Swan came over to check out the photo of himself hanging on the wall. He does a rad hand-typed conspiracy laden one-sheet zine almost everyday. They're usually sitting on the desk at Adobe.

A couple days later we got a giant shipment of artwork from London for our next show Billy Childish.

We hung the show on Tuesday and had the opening on Wednesday. At which point, I scratched another name off of my list of heroes to show work at N+P (I don't have many left). Believe it or not, this show was two years in the making.

Billy was originally planning on playing a set of music for the opening, but he was ill so his trip to the US was cancelled. Bummer, but regardless, I'm still pretty damn stoked to have his art work hanging on our walls. Buy some damn artwork this dude's a legend.

Here's a photo I shot of Billy Childish playing in Oakland last year. The show was booked as a poetry reading. You might be wondering, why is this guy a legend? In answer to that question, I'd say he is because for the last 30 years he has had absolutely no interest in appeasing popular culture. Larry Clark is even making a film out of Billy's first novel, no joke.

Another one of Billy. The inspirational people that I get to interact with on a regular basis is the biggest reward of running a space like N+P, ...cuz there's no godamn money in selling zines (incase you were wondering).

Also, on September 20th we're having a book release for My First Time, a book about people's first punk shows edited by the illustrious Chris Duncan. The book contains stories by such notables as Blake Schwarzenbach (Jawbreaker/Jets to Brazil), Scott Bourne (skateboard man), Ben Sizemore (Econochrist), and me. Come on down to Needles & Pens, a bunch of folks who wrote stories will be reading from the book. It should be radical. ...My first punk show? Naked Raygun, 1987 Chicago. (Old Mandrew).
