Jeffrey Cheung emailed over some photos from a recent one night show he had at Terra Gallery/ event space. The May 19th show also featured live music by Oakland garage rockers Twin Steps and Coldtergeist.

Well, it looks like John Felix Arnold rocked Tokyo with his opening with Koutaro Ooyama at Spes Lab a few weeks back (PHOTOS). Even a language barrier couldn't prevent the success of their collaboration. They invited everyone they met on trains, in cars, cafes, bars, restaurants, and people responded by attending, and bringing their families and friends as well.

Visitors interacted with the work and according to Felix, "people made out on it, people were jumping up and down and going fucking crazy!" A family also brought their child who played on it like a jungle gym, so responses were varied, but nevertheless playful. The night was definitely a successful culmination to his journey in Japan, but I will be very interested to see how this affects his work which will be shown in SFMoMA's windows starting June 8th. Last Thursday evening, I was lucky enough to get invited to Nickelodeon's premiere party for their newest cartoon, Sanja & Craig, created by three awesome dudes - Andreas Trolf, Jim Dirschberger, and Jay Howell. Hosted at Tony's Salon with pizza provided by Pizzanistas, the premiere party was filled with libations and celebrations, even a break-dance battle broke out.

Congrats to everyone who worked on the show, and especially Trolf, Jim, and Jay who all have been working tirelessly on it. Sanja & Craig premiered Saturday 10:30 am 11 am on Nickelodeon. Los Angeles Christofer Chin (Tofer) emailed over some install shots of his current show Ar running in NYC at Lu Magnus through June 29th. Simple/ clean and continuing his op artstyle Tofer Chin features new paintings, photographs, and sculpture continuing his exploration of geologically and architecturally inspired Minimalist forms.

TrustoCorp is generally known for their guerilla tactics of installing cheeky and thought provoking political pop art directly into the consumer circus. Past art by TrustoCorp has ranged from rebranded and relabeled soda bottles that read "Happiness" placed in the soda refrigerator at convenience stores to rebranded and relabeled cereal boxes installed in grocery aisles to remade street signs with messages ranging from grim to humorous, and installed to look as legal signs. Whatever their tactic or subject matter, TrustoCorp is always witty, visually perfect, colorful and downright honest.

So, naturally, their first solo show at LeBasse addressed the gulf between the likes of Skid Row and Beverly Hills, playing on celebrity culture, poverty, consumerism, marketing and the game of the sell. Their painted works appropriate corporate logos, reworked with new words to spell out hidden messages. These are colorfully stenciled in with comic book and pulp fiction imagery, overlapping to form a combination of sexiness, beauty and terror.

Last year, Eric Caruso a teacher at Harry Wirtz Elementary School (Paramount, CA, near LA) had an idea to invite some artists to paint some murals at the school because there wasn't an arts program for the kids. That brilliant idea resulted in some awesome murals by artists Seitaku Aoyama, Yusuke Hanai, Rich Jacobs, Tim Kerr and Albert Reyes.

This year, Eric invented artists Travis Millard and Yusuke Hanai to work on two new murals, one for the library and one facing the field. I hitched a ride down to snap some of these pics from that day.

Eric also took us around to check out the old murals as well as Albert Reye's mural which they've been adding too. He took some student renditions which were inspired by his art and painted them as part of his mural.

Ryan De La Hoz' show in the Upper Haight at RVCA runs through this Saturday... And the next time you're in the Mission, be sure to swing through his new shop on 14th St, Cool Try... We need to get over there soon and do a little photo feature for ya.

San Francisco based artist Ryan De La Hoz has expanded upon his ink and paper cut practice to include laser cut sculptures made with hand manipulated found imagery, textile works, and pieces made from custom fabricated puzzles that have been meticulously disassembled and rearranged to form dynamic compositions. This new media is presented along with his signature hand cut paper and ink works for the first time in his new solo exhibition What New Mystery Is This at RVCA SF. The exhibition presents a fractured alternate history where statues warp and pulsate alongside dizzying Op-Art. Not South America, but we're south of San Francisco.
